The Knoxville Academy of Medicine Foundation exists to lift up our community, so that every person has an opportunity for a healthy life!
In less than 2 years, the KAPA Kitchen has donated more than 100,000 lbs of food and household necessities to food insecure patients in 23 East Tennessee counties.
We have an immediate need to provide additional food to families impacted by Government Shut Down!
Due to the Government Shut Down, approximately 690,000 Tennesseans are at risk for losing their primary food source as SNAP benefits are predicted to run out of money by November 1st. Governor Bill Lee has urged SNAP recipients to prepare for a potential lapse in this federally-funded program as the State of Tennessee cannot use state funds to bridge the gap. Over 35,000 people in Knox County alone receive SNAP Benefits. Without the help of the community, the KAPA Kitchen will not be able to provide food to the additional influx of KAPA patients we are anticipating will need food assistance.
YOU CAN HELP!
We are in immediate need of a refrigerated van to assist with food collection from Second Harvest Food Bank and other food donors across the 23 counties we serve. This vehicle is direly needed to help support the food necessities of our neighbors. Your tax-deductible donation can help us secure this needed refrigerated food transport prior to the wave of requests for food when SNAP benefits cease. The KAPA Kitchen has experienced a steady increase of food requests throughout 2025 and the addition of a refrigerated van will continue to support the needs of our community after SNAP benefits resume.
100% of all donations received prior November 15, 2025 through our website will go to the KAPA Kitchen toward the purchase of this vehicle and additional food to help fulfill the needs of our community.
